"Smokin" Gord Cooper Headed To World Finals

Gord Cooper started drag racing his 1968 Kenworth over 15 years ago. "When we got started we were the only ones drag racing with diesel." said the popular driver. "Back then the diesel trucks had not started yet."

In August, his semi named Smokin' Gun, shattered the current NHRDA ET and Speed Records in the Hot Rod Semi Category at the Canadian Diesel Shootout with a blistering 11.403 ET at 119 mph. He bested the old record by more than three tenths of a second, which is truly amazing. He also runs a unique Detroit Diesel 8V92 Power plant, with a healthy shot of Nitrous.

Gord is looking for his first NHRDA World Championship, and is looking forward to running for the title at the World Finals September 30th - Oct 1st. He is also itching to get some track time at the Texas Motorplex. "Going that far, I've got to keep my focus, do the job, and focus on the championship. But I would like to take of advantage of being able to run close to sea level, as Edmonton is over 3,000 above sea level."

Cooper wanted thank his sponsors for their help with Smokin Gun. They include BD Diesel, which Cooper is a member of their official race team, Greatwest Kenworth, Bandag which provides the 100% custom slicks for the truck, Capstan Hauling in Grande Prairie, Trapko Enterprises, Truck Spa 2003, Wajax Power Systems, West Country Super Vision, and O.C.E.A.N Hauling & Hot Shot.

"Thanks to my Super Sponsors Greatwest Kenworth & BD Performance Diesel for transporting us to Ennis, Tx from Calgary, Alberta. We hope to have a great time in Texas."

The Hot Rod Semi trucks are one of the new classes in NHRDA Diesel Drag Racing, and have already become one of the fans favorites. There is nothing quite like a huge semi doing a monster dual wheel burnout, then thundering down the quarter mile. The NHRDA World Finals will get started September 30th at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis Texas. For more information visit www.nhrda.com.
