BLUE COLLAR - AVERAGE JOE

REAL STREET TRUCKS. RAW, HEADS-UP COMPETITION.

Built for diesel racers who refuse to ruin a great street truck just to compete. The NHRDA No Prep Race Series highlights real-world, high-performance diesel trucks in a true no prep environment where setup, driving, and power all matter.

  • Three classes — from drop-in turbo to unlimited — so every diesel has a lane
  • 2WD, no-prep, street tires — just like you actually drive it (Average Joe / Blue Collar)
  • Non-boosted launches reward quick spool, smart tuning, and driver skill
  • $5,000 to win each class with an escalating purse
  • 1/8 mile, flashlight start, single elimination, no buy-backs
  • Optional winner-take-all grudge race between class champions

STOPLIGHT STREET TRUCK RACING, THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.

Stoplight street truck racing, the way it should be. 2WD. No prep. Street tires. Leaving from a stoplight. Non-boosted launches. Leave from idle. That's how we spend 99% of the time driving our diesels and that's exactly what this series is designed to showcase. Winning won't be about extreme peak horsepower. It will be about quick-spooling setups, linear and controllable power delivery, solid tuning, and driver skill. The 650-750 hp range is competitive and attainable for a well-built street truck without turning it into a trailer queen.

How the Series Came Together

No prep racing has exploded across American motorsports, and the NHRDA brought that energy to diesel for the first time at Diesels in the Desert in Arizona. The after-hours racing drew big crowds, ignited racer excitement, and proved the format belonged at every NHRDA event. It's now been formalized as the NHRDA No Prep Race Series, expanding to three classes so everyone — from daily-driven street trucks to 3,000+ hp race-built monsters — has a lane.

THREE CLASSES

Pick Your Lane

Average Joe

Drop-In Turbo Class

Built for racers who want to keep things simple, responsive, and street-driven. Factory-style drop-in turbo upgrades only — quick-spooling, fun to drive, highly competitive.

Turbo Allowances
  • 6.4L Power Stroke: Stock-size billet wheels only
  • Common Rail (Duramax, 6.7 PS, 5.9 & 6.7 Cummins): 64mm drop-in
  • 6.0L Power Stroke & 12V/P-Pump Cummins: Up to 68mm drop-in
  • 7.3L Power Stroke & VP44 Cummins: Up to 68mm drop-in

Single turbo only. VGT-equipped trucks must retain a VGT turbo. No compounds (unless factory), no T4 swap kits, no S300 or S400 swap kits. Turbo must be a readily available drop-in style purchasable via online retailer — no custom one-off turbos. MAP groove must be smaller than 0.200″. No removable plugs or bushings — all welded.

Blue Collar

S300 / S400 / Compound Class

Larger single turbos and compound setups for higher horsepower combinations — still rooted in real, functional street truck builds. Faster, harder-hitting, built for those chasing the edge.

Turbo Allowances
  • S300 / S400: 72mm max compressor wheel
  • Compounds: 64mm HP with 76mm LP
  • Factory VGT w/ Compounds: Must retain the factory VGT
  • 6.4L Power Stroke: May run compounds OR S300/S400 within sizing

Fire jacket required in addition to standard safety gear. Factory VGT trucks running compounds must retain the factory VGT on the manifold — applies to 6.0L PS, 6.7L PS, VGT Cummins, and VGT Duramax. S467 Cummins is welcome.

Run What You Brung

Unlimited Open Class

The open class for the 3,000+ horsepower builds that don't fit any other box. Bring whatever you've got — unlimited turbos, unlimited power, flashlight start, no prep surface, heads-up. This is where the Casey Turbo, Crazy Horse, and Cormic-style race trucks come out to play.

Turbo Allowances
  • All diesels: No size restrictions — run what you brung

Targeting the 3,000+ hp race truck crowd. Flashlight start, 1/8 mile, no prep surface, single elimination. Final rule sheet and safety requirements published per event.

Frequently Asked Questions

Running a factory-style drop-in turbo? Enter Average Joe. Stepped up to an S300, S400, or compound setup? Enter Blue Collar. Built a 3,000+ hp all-out race truck? That's Run What You Brung. Each of Average Joe and Blue Collar pays $5,000 to win.
Our unlimited open class — no turbo or power restrictions. Flashlight start, 1/8 mile, no prep surface, heads-up. Built for the 3,000+ hp race trucks (think Casey Turbo, Crazy Horse, Cormic-style builds) that don't fit Average Joe or Blue Collar. Final rule sheet and safety requirements are published per event.
Yes — the S467 Cummins is welcome in the Blue Collar class. If your factory configuration used a VGT, the VGT must still be retained on the manifold when running compounds.
Each class starts at $5,000 to win. Once the class fills past 24 entries, every additional spot sold adds 50% of the entry fee to that class's pot. Max field is 32.
You must be in Drive at idle (max 800 RPM) before the green. No building boost on the line. This rewards quick-spooling setups and keeps 2WD no-prep racing safer — if you try to launch hard, you'll spin.
For Average Joe and Blue Collar: street tires only with a minimum 400 treadwear rating. No slicks. No drag radials. M/T, R/T, H/T, and A/T tires are all permitted as long as treadwear is 400 or higher. Run What You Brung tire rules are published on the per-event rule sheet.
